Baba Bento: Authentic Peranakan Bento Boxes!

[ad_1]

My friends at Daddy’s Kitchen are now serving their delicious peranakan dishes at the basement of Hong Leong Building right next to Lau Pa Sat!  That’s really good news for people working around the area who want to have a delicious bento box filled with dishes that still have that home-made quality about them!

They are currently offering four mains, viz Beef Rendang $13.90, Ikan Assam Pedas $13.90, Ayam Kapitan $11.90 and Ayam Pongteh $11.90.   Each bento set comes with Bunga Telang rice, sambal egg, chap chye and your choice of main dish, plus a pack of freshly fried keropok (Eleonor fries them herself) and a drink!

I have known Leon and Eleonor for several years and have always enjoyed their cooking whenever I visit them for bible study.  Leon started his career as a chef at Shangri-la after finishing his diploma at Shatec three decades ago.  The promising young chef then went on to win awards for his culinary prowess and soon started his own restaurant and eateries.  Over the last few years, he stopped work to focus on his ministry.  Now, he has decided to enter the kitchen for a period of time to help his daughter Sarah to start her food business!

I am quite confident in recommending these Bento Boxes as I have been enjoying his peranakan curries for so long and have even seen the way he cooks them.  Leon takes pride in making everything from scratch and even travels to Batam to buy spices and other ingredients! The food is robust and has that home-made quality about them.  Most importantly, they are delicious and always has that special something that makes you want to want to go back for more!  4.5/5

Conclusion

Many patrons have said that the food is as good as their own peranakan grandmother’s dishes!  I wouldn’t know as I don’t have a peranakan grandma.  But if you do, then tell us what you think!
