Having taken the Singapore First Class on 777-300ER, we decided to try out the 777-300ER business class seats from SQ as well. If you’re wondering how we accumulated sufficient miles for these premium seats, check out our post on how to accumulate miles with Singapore travel credit cards!

The Singapore Airlines (SQ) Business Class Check-In

Receiving our tickets with invitation to Silverkris Lounge

Check-in at Changi Airport is always a breeze. It is even more so with Singapore Airlines. This time, we were taking the business class flight from Singapore to Beijing and from Beijing to Busan. Although we were unable to check-in for our second flight to Busan online, we were glad that we were able to do so at the airport. Upon receiving our query, the staff went ahead and printed out our passes for the next flight which actually helped us to catch the flight on time! This we will illustrate in our next post.

After the smooth check-in process, we were issued the signature blue SQ business class tickets. At the bottom of the ticket, we also noticed a line that says “You are invited to the business class SKL“. The SilverKris Lounge! The other privileges of travelling with Singapore Airlines Business Class includes

– Access to Business Class SilverKris Lounge
– 40kg checked baggage allowance
– Boarding privileges
– Book the Cook – full table service onboard
– Fully flat bed (on this 777-300ER flight)

Singapore Airlines Business Class SilverKris Lounge Review

SilverKris Lounge is only accessible to Krisflyer Elite Gold, PPS Club, Solitaire PPS Club (Star Alliance Gold) passengers and First Class/Business Class passengers flying on Singapore Airlines. That means, even if you have lounge passes or flying business class on Star Alliance flights, you will not be able to access SilverKris Lounge. A mark of exclusivity…

The food variety in business class SilverKris Lounge was fantastic! You can find fruits, salads, sandwiches, coffee, tea as well as hot food selection from Western, Chinese and even Indian cuisines! During our visit, we had crispy fried chicken wings, bbq chicken wings, siew mai, prawn noodles, char siew bao, sweet and sour pork as well as sea coconut dessert. Our favourite dish during this visit was the XO fish noodles. Not only was the noodles smothered with the fragrance of the XO sauce, the noodles itself was so ‘Q’! (‘Q’ is a slang for bouncy or springy texture) In fact, we had so many servings of the XO fish noodles, that we lost count of the actual number. Soooooooooo gooooooood!

Business SilverKris Lounge Alcoholic Selection

One of the highlights of visiting the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge is its alcohol selection. Unlike other airport lounges, the SilverKris Lounge also serves champagne in its business class SilverKris Lounge. During our visit, we were able to try the Taittinger champagne at the Business SilverKris Lounge. A bottle retails at $80 each…

Other alcoholic selection includes wines, hard liquor and draft beers (from automated beer machines!). There’s even the Courvoisier XO fine champagne cognac that retails for $350/bottle!

Before long, it was time to board the 777-300ER Business Class flight from Singapore (SIN) to Beijing (PEK)…

Spacious 1-2-1 layout of SQ 777-300ER Business Class
Singapore Airlines Business Class Seats (777-300ER)

The business class configuration were actually very spacious – similar to the first class seats. In fact, we had difficulties differentiating these seats with the 777-300ER first class seats on first look. Especially with the spacious 1-2-1 layout, it was indeed a very wide seating arrangement. However, on closer inspection, we noticed some differences…

Firstly, we noticed that the leg rest space was different. Vastly different. Whether we were in the seated or sleeping position, we realised that unlike the first class seats, our legs could only be stretched into the corner. Moreover, the storage space beneath the leg rest space was alot smaller as well. Secondly, the finishings were also not as plush as first class. Whether, its the leather seats or the “gadgety” parts of the seats, there were still visible differentiation that could be seen. Lastly…no BOSE earphones! But we have to qualify that the noise-cancelling earphones were still very effective!

Singapore Airlines Business Class Book The Cook

Having tried the Book the Cook service during our first class flight, we were eager to find out the offerings for Business Class’ Book the Cook. One of the queries we were eager to solve was, “What exactly is the difference between the Boston Lobster Thermidor and the Classic Lobster Thermidor?” To put it simply, we found out that the Classic Lobster Thermidor offered on SQ Business Class is half a lobster, compared to the Boston Lobster Thermidor, which is a whole lobster offered on SQ First Class…

This time, we also ordered the roast lamb chop, which was tender and did not have any gamey taste at all. Probably the best roasted lamb chop we’ve had. Period. Whether on land or in the air.

Having departed on 2 red-eye flights, we realised that supper served through the Book the Cook menu, does not include appetizers or even desserts – though fruits were available. Nonetheless, champagne and warm nuts are still a prominent feature…

SQ Business Class Charles Heidsieck Champagne

We were greeted with the Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve Champagne that retails at $90 a bottle. Though only slightly more expensive that the Taittinger Champagne, the taste was markedly more crisp and delicious. Certainly a classy welcome to a luxury flight. While 2bearbear were taking photos, the attentive stewardess also brought out a friend to join us! We also checked out the Singapore Airlines Business Class Menu from Singapore to Beijing

After two movies (Jumanji and Going in Style), we headed to dream land in SQ Business Class’ fully flat bed. A very comfortable sleep indeed. The plush blanket also kept us snug and warm throughout the flight. Before we slept, we were asked whether we would like to be woken up for breakfast, to which we obliged…

We were actually disappointed with the braised beef noodles. Although the beef itself was tender and flavourful, the noodles were clumpy and tasteless. As a result, we finished the beef and left the noodles largely untouched.

Redeeming Singapore Airlines Business Class Tickets using Krisflyer Miles

As we’ve mentioned previously in our Singapore Airlines First Class Review, you must have sufficient miles in order to make a redemption on the SQ website. This time, the SQ business class tickets from SIN to PUS (Busan) costs 43,000 miles per ticket (one way) with a tax of $132.10…

The actual cost of the ticket? Close to $3700 dollars. This also means that as with conventional wisdom, it is slightly more worthwhile to redeem first class tickets using miles…

Lastly, before our flight, we also browsed through the Book the Cook menu for SQ Business Class and decided on our food selection onboard…
