Easties, rejoice! A new halal-certified buffet hotpot specialising in spicy soup has recently opened at Simei East Point to widen your dining selection.
Jin Shang Yi Pin Buffet Hot Pot is owned by a Muslim revert, who was originally from China, so you know this spicy hot pot is as authentic as it gets.
The spicy hotpot consists of chilli peppers, peppercorn and various spices simmered in oil to enhance the aroma and bring out the spiciness. Don’t let the term “spicy hot pot” scare you, I survived the meal with no damages.
The buffet costs S$35 for adults and S$22 for children below the age of 12, you can also top-up S$4.90 to enjoy the bbq skillet to grill your meat.
Jin Shang Yi Pin Buffet Hot Pot is operated by the same owners of Yi Zun noodle. I’ve managed to avoid the lunch crowd and had the whole place to myself. Do come in a big group to enjoy the spread that they have.
The spread and selection of meat are aplenty and topped-up regularly. You won’t be disappointed to find any shortages of meat to grill or put in your soup.
You can also try mixing up the condiments to your liking. I tried not to go overboard and added my own mixture of soy sauce, chopped garlic, herb spicy sauce, sesame oil and chilli oil.
If you’re unsure, there are helpful suggestions hung the wall to guide you on how to make sauces, such as mushroom sauce and herb spicy sauce.
For those who love their leafy greens and protein, there is a whole selection for you to pick and choose from, there are fresh tofu, beancurd skin and corns too.
My spicy soup arrived and the distinct peppery smell and the intense fragrant herbs almost made me sneeze. I was quite happy with the first impression and couldn’t wait to dig into the devilish red soup to see how it good it was.
The initial sip wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be but seconds later, my whole mouth went numb. Even though my mouth was tingling, it was so satisfying.
The soup itself wasn’t too salty, but the flavours will enhance once you cook the different ingredients in it. After adding in a few slices of beef into it, the soup tasted better and I enjoyed experimenting with my soup.
This was recommended by the owner, the beancurd skin was similar to hor fun noodle. After a few minutes of submerging it in the stock, it was soft and had fully absorbed the spices from the soup.
I couldn’t resist going for a second serving and I enjoyed how it didn’t fill me up like noodles would.
When it came to grilling the food, it took less than five minutes for the meat to be cooked as they were thinly sliced. I chose the chicken tom yum and beef. The beef was juicy and I preferred mine to be cooked till it’s slightly charred.
There is a sweetness to the meat that leaves a lingering taste in the mouth, perfect to soothe the numb from the soup.
When it came to the dessert selection, there were a few kuehs, cakes and fruits to wrap up your meal. I wished there were more fruits available as I would love a good fruit salad to cool my stomach down after the hot and spicy meal, sadly only watermelon and honeydew were available.
The ice cream section was empty and would have been great if they restocked it. Hopefully, on my next visit, I will be able to have an ice cream after the meal.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, the selection of meat and vegetables were plenty and being a fan of spicy food, the soup oh-so-satisfying.
Oh, you can dine as long as you want as they do not enforce any time limit per patron.
